Platts 3rd Annual Carbon Capture and Storage conference represents the
pre-eminent event on the CCS specific calendar.
Here are just some of the comments from people who attended our previous European Carbon Capture and Storage conferences:
“Informative events, with the right content.”
Tonis Meriste, EESTI Energia AS
“Very well organized.”
Pantelis Vogiatzis, Endesa Hellas SA
“Excellent speakers and a well-informed audience, allowing for very good interactive discussions.”
Anna Lehmann, Senior Climate Change Officer, Sindicatum Carbon Capital
Platts 3rd Annual Carbon Capture and Storage conference has developed in a short space of time from coal-fired power’s much-heralded saving grace, to Europe’s energy policy catchphrase to real, on-the-ground pilot project status.
With these first-stage investments underway, the energy industry is closer than ever to a genuine assessment of CCS’ viability. Now is the time to seek updates from the major actors — how are the pilot projects progressing? Is there an adequate spread of projects in the pipeline to test all potential technologies? What are the options and costs for CO2 transportation? Is liability any clearer with regard to long-term storage? What about public acceptance — is the energy sector doing enough to explain this complex, potentially alarming concept?
The need is urgent for answers to these questions. The European Commission is working hard to make sense of the vast amounts of information flowing from CCS research and development, but the overall picture remains fragmented. Meanwhile power station developers are holding back on coal-fired power projects because of doubts surrounding future CO2 trading and abatement costs. As central plant investment slows, capacity gaps will begin to open up.
Platts 3rd Annual European Carbon Capture and Storage conference will once again assemble the CCS community to debate the structural challenges faced, discuss and review CCS projects in their various stages and look to uncover opportunities in what will become a changed regulatory environment to ensure CCS lives up to its potential.
